Area Hoops Players Take Part in Indianapolis Event

Several area players were among those to take part in a midwest basketball event over the weekend. The teams from UpNext traveled to Indianapolis to take part in the Indy Invitational.

The UpNext 17U team went 2-1 on the weekend. The 17U picked up a 69-54 win over Indiana Elite Legacy, followed by a 77-50 win over INB 2021 Elite. UpNext 17U was then eliminated in championship bracket play, losing a tough 66-63 decision to EG 10. UHA’s D.J. Quarles and Hoptown’s Alijah Watts had big weekends for the 17U team. Quarles averaged 17 points and 3 rebounds, including 31 points in the loss to EG 10, while Watts averaged 16 points and 5 boards.

Other area players on the 17U team include Amani McGee, Arthur McKnight, Kale Gaither, Zach Tow, Jamarcus Burks, Darrin Bussell, and Isiah Jones.

The UpNext 16U team finished the weekend 2-2. The 16U team opened with a 67-63 win over Indiana Faith 2022. They then dropped a tough one point decision to D1 Indiana Beast 65-64 to finish pool play at 1-1. They began silver bracket play with a 73-65 win over Hopson Elite. UpNext 16U then fell in the silver bracket championship game 71-63 to Indiana Elite South.

Area players on the 16U team include Olajuwon White, Qua Chambers, Trey Boggess, and Charquan McAllister.

UpNext 15U ended their weekend at 1-2. The 15U team opened their appearance with a 69-55 win over IBA Prep 2023. Their final game of pool play saw the 15U team drop a 68-62 decision to 94 Feet Elite. UpNext 15U moved on to the silver bracket of their division, where they were upended 81-77 by Bulldogs Elite.

Area players on the 15U team include Daisjuan Mercer and Marcus Eaves.
