A strong second round at the Marathon LPGA Classic presented by Dana has Emma Talley in position for a nice payday.

Talley was virtually flawless on Friday, recording five birdies and 13 pars on the Highland Meadows Golf Club course.

Talley’s 5-under day has her 4-under overall after 36 holes and in a tie for 19th place in Sylvania, Ohio.

Talley hit 12 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in the second round. She needed just 27 putts.

The former Caldwell County High School and University of Alabama star had opened the event on Thursday with a 1-over 72 before shooting a 65 in the second round.

She will tee off at 12:25 p.m. Central time Saturday in the third round.

Talley is nine shots behind leader Lydia Ko.

Ko ran off four straight birdies to start her round and finished with birdies on her last two holes for a 6-under 65. She is 13-under overall and holds a one-shot lead entering the weekend.

At 12-under is Jodi Ewart Shadoff, who had a 63 on Friday.

Danielle Kang is in third at 11-under following a 67 in Friday.

Talley won just under $27,000 last year with an 11th place finish in the Marathon LPGA Classic.

Two years ago, Talley made over $52,000 with a fifth-place finish in that event.

Talley is one of 13 players tied for 19th after two rounds at this year’s event. One of those players is Talley’s former teammate at Alabama, Stephanie Meadow.
