2020 Football, Soccer, and Volleyball Canceled at Fort Campbell

The football season at Fort Campbell, as well as the soccer season and the volleyball season, in 2020 will not take place.

In a statement released by the DoDEA Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that installations in Health Protection Condition level Bravo will not participate in any Group III High or Group II Moderate Infection Risk athletics and activities, practices or drills as identified/defined in the DoDEA Reopening Athletics/Extracurriculars Manual guidelines.

What that means at Fort Campbell is that football, soccer, and volleyball have been canceled for the 2020 fall season.

Sports that are currently allowed for this fall would be cross country and golf.

If conditions were to reach HPCON Charlie, there are no athletics or activities allowed.  Fort Campbell is currently operating under HPCON level Bravo.

The statement notes that certain Group I Lower Risk Infection activities as defined in the DoDEA Guidelines for Re-opening Athletics Manual may be possible at installations in HPCON Bravo provided all DoDEA COVID 19 protocols, state association and installation guidelines are followed.

As for winter and spring sports, the DoDEA statement goes on to say “DoDEA Americas will assess sports offerings for winter and spring as the seasons draw near.”

Football schools impacted by the Fort Campbell decision include Grayson County, Fort Knox, Mayfield, Murray, Caldwell County, Ballard Memorial, and Eminence.  Those schools can work to fill the vacancies on their schedules with other schools that have the same days open.  The KHSAA voted last month to cap the 2020 football season at nine regular-season games.  It also assures Class 2A, District 1 schools Mayfield, Murray, Caldwell County, and Ballard Memorial automatically qualify for the postseason.
