After having their best season since 2011 last year, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels volleyball team looks to continue their progress during the 2020 season. In 2019, the Lady Rebels won 14 matches and advanced on to the 4th Region volleyball tournament.

The 14 wins was the most in a season for Todd County Central since the 2011 season, when they finished with a total of 19 victories.

For the Lady Rebels to make the next step, they have a few key positions to fill, and will need some young talent to continue to elevate their games to the next level.

Stephanie Conquest returns for her second season as head coach for Todd Central. Among her assistant coaches is former Logan County head coach Steve Lyne, who is also in his second season with the Lady Rebel program.

Todd Central lost four seniors following the 2019 season, Brylee Shemwell, Ashley DesRochers, Brianna Shumake, and Brianna Long. Shemwell led the team is assists last season with 356. Shumake and DesRochers finished #1 and #2 in kills with 30 and 20 respectively. Long, who saw action in 32 matches last season, finished the year with 27 kills.

While the Lady Rebels will be on the young side with no seniors on the 2020 roster, there is “youthful” talent and experience ready to lead the way.

Sophomore Lucy Chester is a high flying, powerful hitter for Todd Central, who can be effective from any position on the court. Chester finished last season with 379 kills, 91 digs, 67 aces, 14 assists, and 7 blocks.

Presley Conquest, Coach Stephanie Conquest’s daughter is one of only two juniors on the roster. Conquest was second on the team in kills during the 2019 season with 147. She added 97 digs, and 55 service aces for the Lady Rebels.

Another player expected to have a big season for Todd County Central is Lanie Bivins. Bivins transferred to Todd County after spending her freshman year at Christian County. Bivins was expected to be a big part of the Lady Colonels team this year, before her arrival in Elkton.

Coach Conquest also notes she is looking for big steps from Merideth Drummond as the Lady Rebels get things rolling in the 2020 season.

The Lady Rebels will open the season Tuesday night in a 13th District matchup against the Russellville Lady Panthers.
