Much of the preseason optimism Kentucky fans have about this football season is banked on having a healthy Terry Wilson back at quarterback after he missed the final 11 games last year with a knee injury. So what do two players — tackles Landon Young and Darian Kinnard — who will be blocking for Wilson this year think about his play and recovery?

“I see a guy who is super confident,” Young said. “It’s really fun to see him get out there and cut it loose every now and then.

“We have a quick whistle (in practice) so not to see him get smacked. He’s going in with shoulder first to let somebody knows he’s there if the play is not stopped.”

Last year once Lynn Bowden moved to quarterback, Kinnard said he could almost make plays on his own.

“He was very hard to tackle. Terry is very fast, too, and could move around and has a strong arm. I don’t see a huge difference,” Kinnard said. “We will have more ability to pass the ball.

“I felt very strong in run game last year and hope to keep that strong and keep improving my pass game (blocking) for Terry.”

Young knows what it is like to come from an injury. He missed a season with a knee injury just like Wilson did.

“The key coming off an injury is do all you can so at the end of the day you are not worried about injury but just worried about doing your job,” Young said.
