Trigg County returns a wealth of experience to the volleyball court in 2020 in hopes that it translates into more wins and a chance to regain the district crown.

The Lady Wildcats suffered through a 1-win season in 2019 and lost two starters to graduation.  However, the return a solid core that includes All-District and All-Region performer Iyanna Grubbs.

Seniors Hannah Fletcher and Olivia Cornelius help with the attack upfront.  Cornelius is a transfer from a Heritage Christian Academy program that has won 16 straight region titles.  Junior Megan Hicks was a starter last year that also returns upfront.

Coach Doug Hargrove said the Lady Wildcats are looking to transition to a 6-2 attack to take advantage of the setting abilities of juniors Skye Williamson and Savannah Garnett in addition to seventh-grader Abigail Johnson, who will see plenty of floor time for the Lady Wildcats.

Hargrove, now in his fifth season at the helm of the TCHS program, said numbers at the lower levels are in good shape.  He expects some of the underclassmen to provide some depth as the season progresses.  But he also knows the summer shutdown due to COVID concerns thwarted some strides he was expecting to make coming into the season.

He says this squad is one of the best serving teams he’s had at Trigg County and he’s hoping the rest of the skills catch up sooner than later.  If that happens, the Lady Wildcats should challenge for its first district title in three years and a return to the region tournament.
