Trigg County honored its eight seniors before their district game with Crittenden County, but it was a freshman that stole the show in the 5-2 win over the Lady Rockets.

Lania Hite recorded the hat trick — her first three varsity goals, including the go-ahead goal in the second half to help seal the win.

Hite’s first goal on a breakaway gave Trigg County a 1-0 lead nine minutes in.  Crittenden answered with a goal from their own freshman, Lizzie Campbell, who knocked in a rebound with four minutes left in the first half.

Sophomore Alyssa Southwood knocked in a missed shot in the 29th minute to put Trigg ahead 2-1 in a score that would stand at halftime.

Jaelyn Duncan knotted the game at 2-2 in the 49th minute when she banged home a long free-kick out front.

Hite then answered with a pair of goals in a 10-minute swing — one on a breakaway and another off an assist from DeDe Barbee.

Senior Brylee Cagle ended the scoring for Trigg with a goal inside the game’s final two minutes.

Trigg County outshot Crittenden 25-11 in the contest, including 12-6 in the second half.

Sarah Sink had five saves for the Lady Wildcats, while Crittenden County goalie Alexandra Geary knocked away eight shots despite leaving the game briefly in the first half after getting kicked in the face while trying to clear away a missed shot.

The win improves Trigg County’s record to 1-1 with the victory counting toward seeding in the district tournament.  Crittenden County dropped to 1-1.

Trigg County will play at St. Mary Monday, while Crittenden County will play University Heights Academy Friday in the All-A Region championship.
