The Hopkinsville Tigers used a stifling defense and consistent pressure on offense to pick up a big 8th District soccer win Saturday morning. The Tigers rebounded from their season opening loss to Marshall County by knocking off Christian County 3-0.

The two teams battled toe-to-toe in the opening minutes, with neither able to get to the lead. Christian County had the best chance to score early, however the Colonels missed a direct kick from just outside the box at the 13:30 mark, and that seemed to be just the opening Hopkinsville needed.

Josh Hermosillo put the Tigers in front when he drilled a penalty kick at the 28:00 mark to give Hopkinsville a 1-0 lead. That goal would hold up for the rest of the half.

After Christian County missed their early opportunity to get on the board, the Tigers controlled the remainder of the half, keeping the pressure on the Christian County defense. In the first half, Hopkinsville out shot the Colonels 18 to 4.

The second half saw more of the same, as Hopkinsville held Christian County without a shot for the first 25 minutes of the second half. Meanwhile, the Tigers got a goal from Zach Bryant at the 45:00 mark, and from Ryan Lawrence at the 50:00 mark to push the lead out to 3-0.

For the half, the Tigers had 9 shots on goal to four for Christian County.

Hopkinsville also had strong play up front from Jose Favela, Will Knight, and Miguel Magana.

Despite being under persistent pressure from the Hopkinsville attack, Christian County got solid minutes from Elijah Deason and Evan Deason.

With the win, Hopkinsville improves to 1-1 on the season, and is set to return to play Tuesday at home against Henderson County.

Christian County falls to 0-2 on the season. The Colonels get back to action Tuesday at Webster County.
