McCracken Beats Caldwell 3-0 in 1st/2nd Region Showdown

The top-ranked volleyball teams in the 1st and 2nd Regions squared off Saturday in Princeton.

McCracken County showed it’s deserving of its No. 14 ranking in the state by defeating Caldwell County 3-0 in the contest.

McCracken (2-0), which also beat Christian County 3-0 earlier in the day at the CAB gym, defeated Caldwell’s girls 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

The Lady Tigers (1-1) didn’t make things easy for the Lady Mustangs, but Caldwell could not take a set from the 1st Region power.

Caldwell was within 17-16 in the first set before the Lady Mustangs took the final eight points.

The second set was tied 12-12 and Caldwell was still as close as 15-13 but could never get the lead.

The Lady Tigers got off to a strong start in the third set, running out to a 12-3 lead. Caldwell was still up 18-17, but McCracken won eight of the final 11 points to finish off the match.

Caldwell got 11 kills, two blocks and three digs from Abby Griggs while Olivia Mitchell had nine kills, a block and five digs.

Kendyll Prowell totaled 22 set assists and had two kills and five digs. Mary Tays had two kills, 12 digs and two aces.

Riley Thomas recorded a team-high 14 digs while Adi Sullenger had six digs.

For McCracken, Jenna Henshaw tallied 14 kills while Drew Mullinax had eight, Jayda Harris six, Caroline Sivills five and Adele Mavigliano four.

Harris also had four block solos and a block assist.

Piper Mullinax recorded 25 assists.

It was the first meeting ever between the two volleyball programs.
