Rheagan Lindsey’s fan club of family was with her Saturday on the golf course but it was a broken club that proved hard for her to shake off.

The University Heights Academy sophomore played the final 16 holes without one of her most reliable clubs but still managed a tie for 26th place at the All-A Classic State Tournament in Richmond.

While chipping onto the green on the second hole, the clubhead on Lindsey’s wedge snapped.  She said it was the club she used on just about every shot inside of 50 yards.

Lindsey scuffled to a score of 10-over through the first six holes and then found her groove.  Her first par of the day came on the par-3 seventh hole.  She finished with a 47 on the front nine.

As has been the case all year, Lindsey got better as the day went along.  She made par on six straight holes on the back nine and came in with a 40 despite a double-bogey on No. 17.

The All-A state tourney was the fourth for Lindsey, whose score of 87 was ten shots better than her previous best each of the last two years.

Lexington Christian Academy’s Carter Lankford shot a 3-under 69 to claim the individual state title.  Glasgow’s Nina McMurtrey and Lankford’s teammate C.A. Carter tied for second at 1-under 71.
