Caldwell’s Girls Bottle Up Hopkins Central 3-0

The Caldwell County Lady Tiger soccer team is 3-0 after turning back Hopkins County Central 3-0 Monday night at Butler Stadium in Princeton.

The Lady Tigers did all of their offensive damage in the second half with Kaylee McEnaney, Laken White and Kendall Boyd netting goals.

Caldwell outshot Hopkins County Central 29-6 in the 7th District contest, shutting down a Lady Storm offense that had scored 16 goals in its first two games as Hopkins Central started the season 2-0.

The teams battled through a scoreless first half, although Caldwell had the better of the scoring opportunities in the first half. The Lady Tigers’ best chance came when Hannah Young’s rocket ricocheted off the cross bar midway through the half.

But Caldwell broke through in the 46th minute when McEnaney blasted a shot from the left side off the far post and into the net. Keegan Miller picked up the assist on the play as the Lady Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead.

McEnaney had a hand in the second goal as well. White scored from the right side off a McEnaney assist in the 59th minute to make it 2-0.

Boyd picked up her tally in the 77th minute, scoring unassisted when she buried a perfectly-placed shot from just inside 30 yards out. Boyd found the upper left corner to give Caldwell its 3-0 advantage.

The Lady Tigers outshot Hopkins Central 29-6.

Caldwell head coach Rhett Miller credited Avery Ritchey and his midfielders for mostly bottling up Hopkins Central’s leading scorers, Katelyn Cavanaugh and Priya Holmes

Karsyn Parker made five saves in the net for the Lady Tigers.

Caldwell could claim the No. 1 seed for the 7th District tournament on Thursday, but will have to go to Madisonville-North Hopkins and knock off the Lady Maroons to do so.
