Playing their fourth game in seven days, the weary and short-handed Trigg County boys’ soccer team couldn’t muster enough offense in a 3-1 loss at St. Mary on Monday.

The Wildcats have started slow and found themselves trailing in the first half of each of their four games this season, and were down 2-0 just over halfway through the opening frame on Monday.

Colin Hrdlicka opened the scoring for the Vikings with a tap in from close range just inside of the first ten minutes, and Jack Roof doubled the advantage less than three minutes later.

The Wildcats began to show some life as the first half wore on, but trailed by two goals at the break.  They kept the momentum to start the second half, and Ben Futrell got them on the board when he got his foot on a free-kick by Will Jolly and found the back of the net from six yards out.

Trigg County continued to chase the equalizer and came close on a couple of occasions, but Roof’s second goal with just over sixteen minutes to play ended any hope of a comeback.

It only gets tougher for the Wildcats with a trip to UHA coming up on Tuesday.  The Blazers have only played once so far this season, a 7-0 win over Lyon County in the 2nd Region All “A” title game.
