Hopkinsville Takes Down Crittenden in Five Set Classic

It may have  been one of the most competitive games anywhere in the state Tuesday night. The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the 2020 volleyball season Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers hit the road to Marion and came away with a hard fought five set win over the Crittenden County Lady Rockets.

The opening set gave indication of what kind of night it was going to be. Hopkinsville took the opening set 26-24 to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Lady Rockets took their turn in the 2nd set. Crittenden County fought back to win another tight set 25-23. The third set would end with the same 25-23 score, as the Lady Rockets took a two sets to one lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Lady Tigers clawed right back. With the set going extra points, Hopkinsville won a very tense fourth set 29-27 to even the match up and 2-2.

With the first four sets all being two point margins, the deciding 5th set was not about to be any different. Hopkinsville finally got the win, sneaking by Crittenden County in the final set 15-13, to close out the match 3-2.

Hailey Hallmark led Hoptown with 10 kills, while Alyssa Bearns added eight. Hallmark also had three blocks on the night. Bearns chipped in with 8 service aces.

Lauren Watkins had a stellar night for Hopkinsville. She finished with 21 assists, 4 aces, 2 digs, and 2 kills.

Hopkinsville improves to 1-3 on the season and will take on Christian County on the road Monday night. Crittenden County falls to 2-3.
