Lady Colonels Sweep Hopkins Central on Senior Night

Christian County only has one volleyball senior, but she made a big impact Thursday as the Lady Colonels celebrated senior night with a straight-set win over Hopkins County Central.

Macy Baker had 13 kills, two aces, and two blocks after she was recognized pregame as the Lady Colonels’ lone senior.

Christian County trailed early in the second and third sets but controlled the match otherwise as they picked up their second straight win after two losses to open the 2020 season.

The Lady Colonels jumped ahead 9-5 in the first set and never let Hopkins Central get closer than four points in claiming the 25-14 win.  Paris Buckner had three kills and two blocks in the set for Christian County.

The serving of Leila Lee got the Lady Colonels off to a fast start in the second set.  She had two of her four aces during a 6-2 start.  Hopkins County Central twice overcame a five-point deficit to tie the match.  The Lady Storm tied the match at 19, but Baker had two kills and an ace to close out the 25-22 Lady Colonel set win.

Rylee Owens had three aces during the Lady Colonels’ 10-2 start in the third set.  Christian COunty built a 22-14 lead and appeared on its way to the easy sweep.  However, the Lady Storm battled back to within 24-23.  Christian County closed out the 25-23 in the third and final set.  Baker had eight of her 13 kills in the final set.

Aniya McCarley added five kills and three blocks. Hailey Sparks had 13 assists, and Chantelle Haby had six.

Haylee Gunther and Ellie Larkins each had four kills for Hopkins County Central, who fell to 1-3.  The Lady Storm play at McLean County Saturday.

Christian County is now 2-2 and will host Hopkinsville Monday.
