Talley Fires 2-Under in First Round of Cambia Portland Classic

Emma Talley fired a 2-under-par 70 in the first round of the Cambia Portland Classic on Friday.

Talley was almost flawless in the opening round, recording birdies on Nos. 8, 9 and 11 before suffering her only bogey on the par-4 18th hole.

She was briefly tied for first after 12 holes at 3-under.

Talley hit 12 of 14 fairways and reached 12 of 18 greens in regulation. She needed 28 putts over the first 18 holes of the tournament.

The former Caldwell County High School and University of Alabama star finds herself tied for 23rd entering day two on Saturday.

There were 20 golfers still on the course when play in Portland, Ore., was suspended due to darkness at 7:19 p.m. Pacific time.

Play was stopped for lightning for almost an hour and a half earlier in the day.

Round one will resume on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. Pacific, with the second round beginning as scheduled at the same time.

Defending champ Hannah Green co-leads the event with Cydney Clanton after a first-round 66, where she carded seven birdies.

In 2019, Green co-led after round one with Mi Jung Hur at 8-under.
