The Caldwell County volleyball team maintained its iron grip on the 2nd Region All “A” title on Saturday, not dropping a set in victories over University Heights Academy and Crittenden County.  For the Lady Tigers, its the eleventh region crown, and they have never lost in the competition.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening set with UHA, forcing the Lady Blazers to call a timeout.  It did little to slow Caldwell down, and after back-to-back aces by Olivia Mitchell, they led 15-4.  The score ballooned to 23-8 ahead of another UHA timeout, but it only slightly delayed a 25-10 win.

The Lady Blazers hung close to open the second set and only trailed 9-6 after a kill by Evelyn Morales, but Caldwell answered with a 13-7 run, capped by a Mitchell kill, and went on to take the set 25-14.

It was the same story in the final, as the Lady Tigers raced out to an 18-3 advantage fueled by five aces from Abby Griggs.  Crittenden County only managed five points, and Caldwell was one set from the title.

Caldwell once again used a quick start to ground the Lady Rockets in the second, leading 9-1 after an ace by Mary Tays.  Crittenden battled back to pull within four at 17-13 after a kill by Katie Perryman, but the Lady Tigers closed the show on an 8-2 spurt to secure their trip to the All “A” sectionals.
