Lady Wildcats Nab First Win Over Union County

Trigg County picked up its first volleyball win of the season Tuesday with a four-set win over Union County at Wildcat Gym.

Trigg took the first set 29-27 with Union County rallying for a 27-25 win in the second set.  The Lady Wildcats won the deciding sets 25-19 and 25-16.

Megan Hicks had three straight aces as Trigg built an 8-4 lead in the first set. Union never let Trigg build a lead larger than five points in the set.  Down 18-13, Union rallied to take a 22-20 lead.  Trigg came back, and Union survived set point three times before Olivia Cornelius put away the winning point for a 29-27 win.

In the second set, it was Union County that built a five-point lead at 12-7.   Trigg tied the set at 14, and the set would be tied six more times until Trigg grabbed a 24-23 lead.  A service error tied the match and Union went on for the 27-25 win.

Trigg did a much better job in the serve receive department in the third and fourth sets.  The Lady Wildcats built a 17-9 lead in the third set.  They upped it to 21-12 before Union put together a small rally.  Trigg held on for the 25-19 win.

The Lady Wildcats were able to put the match away with a 26-16 win in the fourth set.

Skye Williamson had 12 kills and two aces for the Lady Wildcats.  Iyanna Grubbs added seven kills and two aces.  Olivia Cornelius also had seven kills and two aces.

Megan Hicks had four aces, and Savannah Garnett had two.  Abigail Johnson had 13 digs in the contest.

Trigg snapped an 11-match losing streak that dated back to last year with the win.  They are now 1-4 on the season and will host Christian County Thursday.  Union County dropped to 0-3 and will play at Livingston Central Thursday.
