UHA Pulls Away From Fort Campbell for Four Set Win

After not being allowed to play by the DoDEA when the KHSAA fall sports seasons got underway, the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons volleyball team traveled to University Heights Wednesday night for their second match in as many nights. UHA had their hands full with the fiesty Falcons for the first three sets before settling in to pick up a four-set win in Blazer Gym.

Early on, it looked like the Lady Blazers would make it a short evening. Behind strong play from Evelyn Morales and Beth Peebles, UHA ran out to a 25-11 win in the opening set to go up 1-0 in the match.

However, the Lady Falcons gave quick evidence in the second set that it would not be a short night of work for the Lady Blazers. With Jasmin Jones and Faith Kaauamo giving Fort Campbell some powerful play in the second set, it was the Lady Falcons turn to cruise out to a big set win. Fort Campbell took the second set 25-14 to even things up at one set apiece.

The third set turned out to be a bit more tightly contested. UHA finally pulled away late in the set to get the 25-19 win to go up 2-1 in the match. Evelyn Morales and Alison Bullen helped lead the third set charge for the Lady Blazers.

In the 4th set, UHA jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead and controlled the set from that point on. The Lady Blazers would take the set 25-13 to close out the match three sets to one. Julia Thomas’ play at the net in the final set helped to close out the win for the Lady Blazers.

A big night at the night for UHA’s Evelyn Morales and Julia Thomas. Morales finished with 14 kills, while Thomas added 8. Sarah Peebles had 17 assists on the night, while Beth Peebles had 16.

Jasmin Jones finished with a big night for Fort Campbell. Jones wrapped up her night with 13 kills and four service aces. Faith Kaauamo added 10 kills and two aces.
