Lady Rebels Pick Up First Win Over Hoptown Since 2014

With big nights from Lucy Chester, Lanie Bivins, and Presley Conqurest, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels ended a five match losing streak to Hopkinsville Thursday night. The Lady Rebels picked up their first win over the Lady Tigers since the 2014 season, as they earned the four set win.

The Lady Rebels set the tone for the evening from the opening moments of the match. Todd Central scored the first six points of the first set and controlled the set from there. The lead would grow to ten points at 14-4. The Lady Tigers trimmed the lead to four at 17-13. However, Lucy Chester had kills on three straight points to end any chance of a rally, as Todd Central went on to close out the set 25-14.

Lucy Chester finished the opening set with 8 kills to pace the Lady Rebel attack.

The second set saw the Lady Tigers get things rolling a bit in their direction. Behind the play of Alyssa Bearns and Hailey Hallmark, Hopkinsville took an early 8-4 lead in the second. The Lady Rebels would close to within two points on a couple of occasions. However, the Lady Tigers would close strong thanks to the play of Hallmark, Bearns, Lupita Vieyra, and Aloria Moyd, and won the set 25-18 to even the match at one set apiece.

The turning point in the match came in the third set. With Lucy Chester getting three early kills, Todd County Central jumped out to a 7-1 lead. After three consecutive kills by Lucy Chester, the Lady Rebels appeared to have the set well in hand with a 22-15 lead.

However, with Hailey Hallmark controlling the net, Hopkinsville would fight their way back and take a 25-24 lead and hold serve with a chance to end the set. However, the Lady Rebels scored the next three points to win the set 27-25, and go up two to one in the match.

Chester had ten kills and two aces in the set for the Lady Rebels. Hailey Hallmark was big for Hopkinsville, finishing the set with eight kills.

The fourth set was much like the first. Todd Central jumped out to an 8-3 lead. The lead would grow to 14-5 before the Lady Tigers made a move to try and force the match to a fifth set. Hopkinsville would close to within two points at 16-14. At that point, Lucy Chester and Lanie Bivins led the Lady Rebels to a strong finish, as Todd Central won the set 25-15 to take the match three sets to one.

Unofficially, Chester finished the night with 22 kills for the Lady Rebels. Hallmark had 12 for the Lady Tigers, while Alyssa Bearns added eight more.

With the win, the Lady Rebels improve to 4-2 on the season. Hopkinsville now falls to 2-7.

The win was the first for Todd County Central over Hopkinsille since the Lady Rebels beat the Lady Tigers three times during the 2014 season.
