Marshall County is the favorite to repeat as boys’ region golf champions and make a sixth straight trip to state when the Murray Country Club hosts the Region I Tournament Monday.

Marshal senior Jay Nimmo is looking to win his third straight individual title.  Nimmo, who has committed to Mississippi State, has finished in the top three at region four straight years.

The Marshals won the region title by 30 shots last year over McCracken County as they had the top three golfers on the day and four of the top six.

Camdyn McLeod has finished third the past two seasons and is expected to again contend for an individual title.

McCracken County, who last won a region title in 2017, doesn’t have a player returning that finished in the top 10 at region last year.

St. Mary and Trigg County appear to have the strongest shot at unseating Marshall County.  The Vikings were third last year and return Rocco Zakutney and Peyton Purvis who both finished in the top eight at the region tourney last year.

Trigg County, who finished fourth last year, has been playing well of late, led by Hunter Reynolds.  The Wildcat junior missed qualifying for the state tournament last year after a trip to Bowling Green his freshman season.

The region champion and seven lowest scores not on the first place team qualify for the state tournament.  Crittenden County’s Sammy Greenwell finished fifth at region last year and looks for a return trip to state this year.
