Lyon County sophomore Cathryn Brown is headed back to the KHSAA State Golf Championships.

Brown placed fifth in the girls’ 1st Region Golf Tournament Tuesday at Calvert City Country Club.

It was the highest finish by any player not wearing the orange and blue of Marshall County.

Brown carded a 3-over-par 75 in the regional tournament to finish two shots behind medalist Trinity Beth of Marshall County.

Marshall’s Katie Roberts, Megan Hertter and Savannah Howell all tied for second after shooting 2-over 74s.

Brown was in contention late, within one shot of the lead after getting to 1-over through 15 holes.

However, three-putt bogeys on Nos. 16 and 18 dropped her into fifth place.

Brown three-putted three times on the day.

The round got off to a bit of a rocky start for the Lyon standout, who bogeyed her first three holes of the day to quickly get to 3-over.

However, she was even over the final 15 holes while finishing at 3-over.

Brown had three birdies — on Nos. 6, 12 and 14.

She will play in the state tourney next week. That event is scheduled for Bowling Green Country Club.

As a freshman last year, Brown finished in a tie for 12th at the state golf tournament.
