It was simply a tough way to lose for the Todd County Central Lady Rebels Thursday night. After battling Logan County even on the scoreboard though 80 minutes, the Lady Rebels lost a 13th District heartbreaker 3-2 in the opening seconds of sudden death overtime.
Logan County’s Kadyn Costello took a pass in the middle of traffic right in front of the goal, spun, and navigated the ball to the left side of the net, just out of the reach of Todd Central goalie Sam Case less than 30 seconds into the overtime to close out a hard fought match, and give the Lady Cougars the win.
The winning goal capped off a match that saw Logan County come from behind twice in regulation to tie the match.
The Lady Rebels took the early lead in the match when Ciara Collins blasted a shot from the right hand side into the top left of the net to make it 1-0.
Later in the half, Kadyn Costello scored the first of her three goals of the night, beating the Lady Rebels defense down the middle of the field, to even things up at 1-1.
Todd Central seemed to have seized the momentum in the waning seconds of the half when Madison Henderson took a well placed pass down the middle of the field and found the let to send the Lady Rebels to the break at 2-1.
Kadyn Costello’s second goal of the night, midway through the second half,evened the score at 2-2. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half, setting the stage then for Costello’s overtime heroics.
For the night, the Lady Cougars outshot the Lady Rebels 30-9. Todd Central’s defense did an outstanding job keeping the Lady Cougars out of the net. The Lady Rebels got big plays from Itzel Salazar and Darby Delph.
In addition to Kadyn Costell, the Lady Cougars got solid offensive pressure from Brianna Shelton and Campbell Hamilton.
The loss drops Todd County Central to 3-6 on the season, while Logan County improves to 4-1-1.
