In a game that seemed at times to be played in slow motion, the Trigg County boys’ soccer team and visiting Mayfield finished in a 2-2 tie on Thursday night at the Recreation Complex.

Mayfield jumped on top just ten minutes in when Brian Hernandez outjumped a Trigg defender to head home from close range.  The Cardinals enjoyed the lead for the next twenty minutes, but Will Jolly outran the Mayfield defense and scored off an assist from Nik Kaster to tie the game with ten minutes left in the half.

Jolly was at it again just after the halftime break when he picked the ball up just inside of midfield and beat three Mayfield defenders, scoring to put the Wildcats in front.

However, with just over seventeen minutes to play, Mayfield’s Raul Sanchez caught Trigg goalkeeper Joseph Crawford off his line and snuck in a shot off the bottom of the crossbar to once again tie the match.

The draw stops a two-game winning run for the Wildcats [4-3-2], who will be off until Tuesday when they get a visit from Christian County.  Mayfield is 3-6-1 on the season.

The tie is the first in the 16-game series between the two schools.  Trigg leads the series 10-5-1.
