Madisonville will have two golfers play on the second day of the Leachman GMC-Buick-Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Tournament Wednesday after Jackson Hill and Aaron Munger both made the cut.

Hill, playing in his fourth straight state tourney, had a reliable putter on the back nine and shot a 2-over 74 to stand in 16th place after day one.

Munger, a senior making his state tourney debut, shot a 7-over 79 despite losing a ball in a tree on the fourth hole. The result was a double bogey, but Munger found his footing at the turn and shot a 2-over 38 on the back nine.  Munger, who was forced to buy a pair of golf spikes at the pro shop on the morning of last week’s region tournament because he forgot his regular pair at home, donned his recent purchase again Tuesday.  Both he and the spikes will advance to Wednesday’s second round.

Meanwhile, Hill’s putter continually bailed the Maroon junior out of some uncomfortable situations.  His round consisted of 16 pars and two bogeys including five straight pars to finish his round.  Hill stands six shots behind the leaders that include Marshall County’s Jay Nimmo.

Play was suspended at the Bowling Green Country Club with one group still on the course.  Wednesday’s tee times will be finalized when their round resumes in the morning.  Tuesday’s start was delayed 90 minutes due to fog, which led to the latter groups finishing in dark conditions.
