Playing in her first state golf tournament, Hopkinsville’s Cate Blane got off to a rough start but found her game on the back nine to shoot a 13-over 85 and make the cut at the KHSAA State Golf Tournament.
Blane began her day at the Bowling Green Country Club with a bogey and triple bogey. A par on No. 3 and a birdie on No. 6 helped settle the eighth-grader down. She made the turn with a 9-over 45 and appeared to be on her way to missing the cut.
Blane then began the back nine with five straight pars to stay at 9-over. She came in with a 4-over 40 to finish at 85. Her back nine play allowed her to make the cut for Saturday’s second round.
