Cathryn Brown said the experience she gained at last year’s state tournament helped her when she teed off on the first hole Friday at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Tournament.
“My hands weren’t shaking, and I didn’t hook my tee shot,” she said.
The Lyon County sophomore shot a 3-over 75 and finished the first round tied for sixth place. She is five shots behind the leader, Madison Central’s Elizabeth Eberle.
Brown began her day on the back nine and finished with a 2-over 38. She made par on her next eight holes and bogeyed her final hole for a 37. She only had four bogeys in her round to go with one birdie.
Brown is playing in her second straight state golf tournament after making the cut last year.
