In a football game filled with mistakes, Marshall County took better advantage of the ones given them by Trigg County to nab a 35-25 win over the Wildcats Friday at Perdue Field.

Trigg scored four points on a pair of safeties in the game, but a 100-yard pick-six right before halftime was one of two red-zone interceptions thrown by Trigg that kept points off the board.

Logan Reese provided back-breaking play after play for Marshall County. His 71-yard catch and run just before the end of the first quarter got the Marshals on the board for the first time.

Trigg scored nine points prior to Reese’s TD.  Dakota Lockard sacked Marshall County quarterback Quinn Smith in the end zone for Trigg’s first safety of the game. Connor Wallace caught a 21-yard pass from Jacob Wease with 1:52 left in the opening quarter for a 9-0 Trigg lead.

The Marshals took the lead on a 4-yard run by Smith.  The drive was kept alive by a pass interference penalty by the Wildcats on a 3rd-and-long play.

Inside the final minute of the half, Reese picked off a Wease pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for a 21-9 Marshal lead at halftime.

Marshall took the opening drive of the second half down the field and punched it in on a 38-yard quarterback draw by Smith.

Another sack in the end zone got Trigg to within 28-11.  Jaquellus Martin caught a 14-yard pass from Wease for a 28-18 score on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The momentum for Trigg didn’t last long when Reese caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Smith with 10:15 left.  Reese finished with four catches for 143 yards.

Trigg got on the board with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Wease to Martin with 9:54 left that proved to be the final points of the game.

The Wildcats outgained the Marshals 310-230.  Wease was 19-of-41 passing for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He was picked off twice.  Trigg managed just 59 yards rushing. Kendric Adams had 69 yards on 17 carries.

Martin caught eight passes for 134 yards. Jhaden Vaughn added seven catches for 69 yards.

The Wildcats were penalized a season-high 10 times for 85 yards.

Smith, who came into the game with 128 passing yards in three games this season, was 5-of-10 for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Marshall County, now 2-3, leads the all-time series with Trigg County 10-6.

Trigg County fell to 1-4 with the loss and hosts Webster County Friday for homecoming.
