The UHA Lady Blazers used a four goal blitz in a ten minute span of the second half to blow open a tight match and pick up their 5th straight 8th District girls soccer title Thursday night at Givens Field. The offensive outburst took a 2-0 halftime lead over Christian County and ran it out to 6-0 as the Lady Blazers then cruised to the 9-1 win against the Lady Colonels.

The Lady Blazers controlled the possession and flow of the match from the very beginning, outshooting the Lady Colonels on the night 41-3.

It took UHA just two minutes to get to the lead as Kate Cansler headed in a corner shot from Grace Pape to put the Lady Blazers up 1-0. Just a minute later, Molly Bennett scored a rebound off a miss from Sarah Covington to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Blazers would have several more opportunities to extend the lead in the first half, but could not find the net again going into the break. UHA would still have the two goal lead as the teams headed off to the break at the half.

Keeping the pressure up on the offensive end, University Heights put things away early in the second half. Freshman Audrey Grise, who had entered the game in place of Grace Pape, who suffered a leg injury in the first half, found the net coming down the right hand side at the 43:00 mark to make it 3-0.

Just a minute and a half later, Grise provided the assist as Sarah Covington scored to move the lead out to 4-0. At the 45:30 mark it was Addi Fourqurean’s turn, as the the lead grew to 5-0.

Audrey Grise and Rheagan Lindsey would score on back to back penalty kicks to make it 7-0.

The Lady Colonels were able to avoid the shutout when Alayah Lander scored to make it 7-1 at the 66:30 mark.

UHA would add late goals from Kate Cansler and Emma Perry to reach the final 9-1 score.

With the win, University Heights improves to 7-2-2 on the season. Christian County drops to 3-8-1 with the loss. Both teams will move on to next week’s 2nd Region girls’ soccer tournament at Henderson County.
