Trigg County will kick off the Boys’ Second Region Soccer Tournament Monday when they play Hopkins County Central at Madisonville.

Christian County and Madisonville are also in the top bracket. The bottom bracket will be played Tuesday and features host Madisonville and Webster County in the opener and University Heights and Lyon County in the nightcap.

Trigg County (6-4-2) lost to Hopkins County Central 3-2 on Oct. 8. The Wildcats will be looking to win its first game in the region tournament for the second time in three seasons. Hopkins County Central (5-7-1) is making just its third region tourney appearance in the past two decades and have not won a game at the region level in that time.

Trigg and Hopkins Central play at 5:30 Monday. The 8 pm nightcap features Christian County (1-10-1) and Henderson County (5-2-1). The teams were scheduled to play last month but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. They played last year with Henderson County winning 10-0.

Henderson County last won a region title in 2015. Christian County is making its first region tournament appearance since 2014 when they beat Hopkinsville for the district title but lost to the Tigers in the region championship match. The Colonels last won a region title in 2005 before the current alignment when just four teams advanced to the region tourney.

On Tuesday at 5:30, defending region champion Madisonville (9-3-1) will play Webster County (2-8). The Maroons beat the Trojans 9-3 on Sept. 21 and ousted them from the region tournament last year in a 10-0 mercy-rule win.

At 8 pm, University Heights Academy (8-2) will play Lyon County (4-8-1). The Blazers beat the Lyons 7-0 in the All A Classic Region Tournament on Sept. 11. The Lyons will be looking to win a game at the region tournament for the first time since 2006, while the 8th District champion Blazers will be looking to win the school’s first region title since 2011.

The semifinals will be played Wednesday at 5:30 and 8. The championship match will be Thursday at 6 pm.
