2nd Half Effort Carries Henderson County Past Caldwell County

For a half, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers were positioned right where they wanted to be in their girls’ 2nd Region quarterfinal match with defending champion Henderson County. The Lady Tigers held the Lady Colonels scoreless in the first half and were right in the thick of the match with a 0-0 score at the break.

However, Henderson County would score two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to take control of the match, as they went on to pick up the 3-0 win on their home field. The match was played in rainy conditions for much of the night, and saw a 35 minute lightning delay in the second half, with the Lady Colonels holding a 2-0 lead.

Henderson County’s move in the match started at the 44 minute mark when Ashton Lynam dribbled from midfield into the box and drilled a shot into the left side of the net to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Cecilia Palummo scored off a rebound to extend the lead to 2-0.

After the lightning delay, Lynam would score a late goal at the 76 minute mark to push the lead on out to 3-0.

After playing even for much of the first half, the Lady Colonels began to control possession in the second half as they moved to the lead.

Caldwell County had some early chances to get on the board but were unable to find the night. The Lady Tigers got big defensive efforts frtom Kelsie Adams and Avery Ritchey.

Henderson improves to 7-1 with the win. All seven wins have been by shutout.

Caldwell County, who was the regular season champ in the 7th District, finishes the year at 6-6-1.
