Lady Blazers Roll Into Semifinals 10-0 Over Lyon County

Kate Cansler had four goals and two assists as University Heights Academy defeated Lyon County 10-0 in the first round of the 2nd Region soccer tournament Monday in Henderson.

The Lady Blazers (8-2-2) built a 7-0 lead at halftime and ended the game in the 61st minute on the 10-goal mercy rule.

UHA advances to Wednesday’s semifinal round where they will take on host Henderson County at 5:30. Henderson (7-1), the five-time defending 2nd Region champion, blanked Caldwell County 3-0 in Monday’s first game.

On a rainy night – sometimes in a downpour, the Lady Blazers were still able to generate scoring chances and capitalize on them.

Sarah Covington got UHA on the scoreboard less than 5 minutes in, using help from Cansler to put the Lady Blazers up 1-0.

Lyon (7-7) kept the game competitive early, but University Heights pulled away over the last 20 minutes of the first half.

Addi Fourqurean found the net in the 21st minute to make it 2-0.
Grace Pape turned and scored off the keeper’s hands in the 25th minute to extend the margin to 3-0.

Cansler recorded back-to-back goals in the 28th and 36th minutes as UHA went 5-0.

Audry Grise scored in the 38th minute and Sloan Hampton followed in the 39th minute to blow the contest open at 7-0.

UHA continued to add to its total after the break.

Riley Bailey made it 8-0 in the 50th minute.

Cansler tallied her third goal in the 59th minute, then ended the game in the 61st minute.

Maddie Russell had a busy night in the Lyon County net. She recorded 19 saves in the contest.

The 2nd Region tournament continues Tuesday with more first round action in Henderson.
