Trigg County’s girls have advanced to the 2nd Region semifinals for the first time in three years, but had to outlast Webster County 1-0 in a match that went to a penalty-kick shootout.

The Lady Wildcats won 4-3 in a tiebreaker that went seven rounds to claim Tuesday’s first round contest at Henderson County.

Trigg (8-3-1) will next face Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-6-2) in Wednesday’s 8 p.m. regional semifinal tilt. The Lady Maroons advanced Tuesday by shutting out Christian County 8-0.

The Lady Wildcats held a 19-5 advantage in shots against Webster through 80 minutes of regulation, but Trigg could never find the back of the net.

The Lady Wildcats also had the only shot of overtime.

Webster (2-4-1) was twice down to its final kick in the shootout but the Lady Trojans were able to extend PKs.

In the first five attempts, Kara Southwood and Jayne Dearth converted for Trigg.

For Webster, Brooklyn Conrad made her PK while Hannah Corbin tied the shootout at 2-2 when she made the Lady Trojans’ fifth attempt. That extended the tiebreaker to sudden death.

DeDe Barbee made Trigg’s next attempt. But Kamryn Pratt answered for Webster to keep the match going.

Allie Hill converted Trigg’s next shot. The Lady Wildcats then won the contest when Webster’s next attempt went wide to the left of the net.

Sarah Sink finished the night with five saves for Trigg.

The win was the sixth straight for the Lady Wildcats, who won the 5th District championship last week.
