Kentucky assistant coach Bruiser Flint recruited UK freshman Lance Ware when he was on the Indiana coaching staff before joining John Calipari’s staff. He thinks Ware “has gotten a lot better” since he was recruiting him for Indiana.

“I watched him as a junior one game and shot all 3-pointers. I thought, ‘This kid is losing his mind,'” Flint said.

Now he calls Ware an “unbelievable rebounder” who should be a valuable player for UK.

“He is what I call a tracker. He can get balls out of his area,” Flint said. “He is becoming a much better player.”

Ware told Flint he had also grown at least an inch since high school and is listed at 6-9, 223 pounds on the UK preseason prospectus.

“I just think he is a lot better than I thought after seeing him in high school a couple of times,” Flint said.

He said Ware’s high school coach, Rick Brunson, deserves credit for working on his play around the basket and his overall skill development before he got to UK this summer.

Flint also said he thinks Ware, Isaiah Jackson and Olivier Sarr give Calipari three rim protectors that the UK coach really likes to have.
