If Union County was worried about a hangover following its impressive win over Paducah Tilghman last week, it didn’t show Friday as the Braves scored 42 first-half points on their way to a 48-20 win over the Wildcats.

Union County can warp up the regular-season district title next week with a win over Webster County.

Corithian Seales-Portee ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns on just eight first-half carries to pace the Union County offense that racked up 293 yards in building a 42-6 halftime advantage.

The senior running back scored on a 52-yard run up the middle with 8:08 left in the first quarter for the first points of the game.

Trigg answered when Jacob Wease hit Jaquellus Martin on a 27-yard throw and catch with 3:39 left in the opening frame. The extra point was blocked, keeping the Braves ahead 7-6.

Union County then ended the half with five touchdowns on five possessions.

Kristopher Hughes scored on runs of 1 and 37 yards, and Seales-Portee added touchdown runs of 24 and 40 yards. He also added a nifty 30-yard touchdown grab that saw him bobble and regain control before racing to the end zone.

Union County’s only points of the second half came on the opening kick when Gideon Adams picked up an onsides attempt and raced 45 yards to the end zone.  The Braves played its junior varsity offense in the second half.

Kendric Adams scored from seven yards out in the third quarter, and Martin added a 30-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter for Trigg’s final points.  Martin’s six touchdown catches this season leads the Wildcats. He finished the game with four catches for 90 yards.

Trigg County had 188 yards of offense. Adams had 33 of Trigg’s 41 rushing yards on nine carries.  Wease was 10-of-25 passing for 147 yards.  In addition to his two touchdown passes, he was picked off twice.

Union County had [2-4] 213 rushing yards and 71 passing yards for a total of 284 yards.  After scoring 45 points in its first four games, the Braves have exploded 97 in wins over Tilghman and Trigg County.

Paducah Tilghman was scheduled to play Webster County Friday in a Class 3A, District 1 contest. However, the game was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns from Tilghman.

A Union County win on Nov. 6 means they win the regular-season district title and would host Webster again in the first round of the playoffs.  Trigg would play Tilghman in the first round, likely in Paducah.

Trigg County [2-5] will play at Caldwell County next Friday in the annual 139 Bowl.  The Tigers were off Friday and have played just once in the last three weeks due to COVID-19 – that was a 41-34 overtime loss to Murray last week.
