Want to know what Kentucky freshman Cam’Ron Fletcher’s game is like? Let him explain in his own words.

“I’m a dog. I’m going to get on the floor. I’m going to get dirty. I’m going to do all the little things,” said Fletcher during a Zoom conference with media members Friday.

Loose balls belong to him and are part of getting dirty.

“I’m going for all the loose balls. I’m playing defense. I don’t want anyone to score on me. I’m just an animal,” he said.

Sometimes Calipari has to get talented freshmen to buy in to play defense. Not Fletcher. He was sold before he arrived on campus.

“Yeah, I love defense myself. Before anything else, I love defense. Defense wins games,” he said.

He expected practice to be challenging and hard, and it has so far.

“I’m just doing what Coach (John Calipari) asks me to do. Practice is going good right now,” he said.

He said team building was a “process” that the team is still working on each practice.

Fletcher said he’s normally matched against either BJ Boston or Lance Ware in practice.

“Lance is strong and he makes me more physical. BJ, he is a very good athlete and he just makes me better on defense,” Ware said.

He said the team is happy not only to have Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr eligible now but also Jacob Toppin, a player he says could be a “big factor” this season as well.

“Energy. He plays hard,” Fletcher said about Toppin. “He’s going to do what the coaches ask him to do. He’s a good teammate, looks out for others and he’s a very good dude.”
