After collecting their first 6th-District volleyball title under strange circumstances last week, the Webster County Lady Trojans followed with their first-ever win in the 2nd Region tournament on Monday night.  Hosting their first-round match with Livingston Central, the Lady Trojans cruised to a 3-0 victory, setting up a second-round meeting with Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday at Christian County.

The first set was tied at 5-5 before the Lady Trojans went on an 8-1 run, capped by back-to-back aces by Allie Meisel.  Webster’s lone senior, Karis Sallee, served up a pair of aces to double-up the Lady Cardinals at 16-8, and the Lady Trojans eased to a 9-point win.

After a Maggie Jones kill, the Lady Trojans led 6-1 to begin the second set and looked to be in control at 16-8.  However, Livingston’s Lexi Waters had a kill followed by four aces in five serves to pull to within two at 16-14.  But after a timeout, Webster answered with a 9-3 burst to go up 2-0.

It was Livingston’s turn to build an early advantage in the third, leading 7-2 after a Beth Hawk ace.  But the Lady Trojans wouldn’t be denied, pulling even at 10-10 and again at 14-14.  A 5-0 run followed, capped by a Meisel ace, and Webster was on the way to a 25-18 victory.

Livingston Central ends its season at 4-12, while Webster improves to 10-5.  Tuesday’s second-round matchup with the Lady Maroons will be the second meeting of the year between the two teams.  Madisonville-North Hopkins took the regular-season match 3-0.
