Caldwell’s Abby Griggs Named Honorable Mention All-State

Caldwell County senior middle blocker Abby Griggs has been named All-State Honorable Mention by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association.

The KVCA released its 2020 All-State Teams on Monday.

Griggs is second on the Lady Tigers this season with 308 kills and leads the team with 50 blocks.

Griggs is No. 2 on Caldwell’s all-time list for blocks.

Griggs helped the Lady Tigers (19-5) win the 2nd Region championship last week.

Joining Griggs on the all-state list is teammate Olivia Mitchell. Mitchell has been named first-team all-state for the second straight year.

The only other 2nd Region player to make the list was Madisonville-North Hopkins senior libero Alexis Fliehman.

Abby Shadwick of Lexington Henry Clay is the 2020 Ms. Kentucky Volleyball. Shadwick, a senior outside hitter, has helped lead her team with 240 kills to a Top 5 KVCA ranking.

Senior libero Eleanor Beavin of Mercy Academy in Louisville is the 2020 KVCA Defensive Player of the Year. For the third year in a row, Beavin receives the award after achieving over 370 digs and averaging over seven digs per set.

Coach Dale Grupe of Henry Clay High School is the 2020 KVCA Coach of the Year. Grupe coached his team to an 20-3 record and an 11th Region championship.

KVCA All-State Teams are voted on by KVCA member coaches.
