Sophie Galloway will be adding a lot of orange to her wardrobe in the coming year. The newest Marshall County Lady Marshal signed to continue her track and field career at the University of Tennessee Tuesday.

Galloway is a three-time Gatorade Kentucky Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Ballard’s Denasha Mondy [2000-02], and Sacred Heart’s Emma Brink [2008-10] as the only three-time winners in Kentucky history.

Galloway transferred to Marshall County from Graves County over the summer for her senior seasons in basketball and track and field.  She was a three-time winner at the 2019 Class 3A State Track and Field Meet, taking first place in the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump, and the triple jump.  She set a new state record in the triple jump.

Galloway also won state titles as a freshman in the long jump and triple jump.

With her junior season canceled due to the coronavirus, Galloway has been training to compete in the college heptathlon, which consists of the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter run, long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run.

Tennessee’s women finished ninth at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championship and 66th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
