With only three upperclassmen on its roster, some may think Heritage Christian Academy will find wins tough to come by in 2020-21. However, the Lady Warrior roster also features some talent at the lower grade levels that could see them surprise some people on the hardwood this year.

HCA returns its two leading scorers from last year’s 5-18 team that won a game at the KCAA State Tournament.

Abbi Bullock was named to the KCAA All-State Team after leading the Lady Warriors in scoring [8.5 ppg.], assists [2.5 apg.], and steals [3.3 spg.] last year.  Normally a two-guard, Bullock saw some time at point guard when Kinley Deason was injured.

Deason has been the team’s second-leading scorer each of the last two seasons and comes into the 2020-21 season healthy.

Junior Tori Sutton will provide the frontcourt presence for the Lady Warriors along with sophomore Hallie Zieg, who was named to the All-State Tournament Team last year after scoring 18 points in the two tourney games.  She led the team in rebounds last year.

Sophomore Bailey Craft, who played volleyball for the Lady Warriors, will see her role increase for the Lady Warriors as well.

“We have good rebounders for our size, but we are going to have to press a lot to avoid being in a half-court defense situation because of our lack of size,” Coach Matt McGowan said.

Sophomore Liana Carr, freshman Rachel Robson, and seventh graders Gracie St. Martin and Kaylyn Lynch will also see plenty of floor time for the Lady Warriors, whose varsity roster will feature six middle schoolers.

With region foe and defending KCAA state champion Oak Ridge Christian losing four starters to graduation, the Lady Warriors are looking to once again regain their foothold in the region and better their seeding come state tournament time.

Heritage Christian Academy opens its season Monday at Clarksville Christian.
