Early Road Woes Continue in Lady Wildcat Loss at Daviess County

Trigg County’s early game road woes continued Saturday afternoon as a 21-4 Daviess County start was the difference in a 54-30 win for the Lady Panthers.  The loss was Trigg’s third straight to start the 2020-21 season.

Trigg County was held without a field goal until Adri Phillips’ shot in the lane with 38 seconds left in the first quarter. By that time, Trigg County was trailing 18-4.

Brooklyn Daughtery had seven points in the first quarter for the Lady Panthers, who knocked down 7-of-16 shots in the first eight minutes.

The cold shooting continued in the second quarter for the Lady Wildcats, who hit just 3-of-24 first half shots.  Meanwhile, Daviess scored 13 points off nine Trigg turnovers in the half.

Down 33-9 at halftime, Trigg began the second half on a 13-1 run keyed by 10 points from Olivia Noffsinger and Marleigh Reynolds to pull to within 34-22.  That was as close as Trigg County would get.

The Lady Panthers scored the final six points of the third quarter to squash any Trigg ideas of a comeback.

Trigg County shot a little better in the second half [32%] but finished at 22-percent.  The Lady Wildcats also failed to hit 50-percent at the free throw line for a third straight game.

Reynolds had nine points and nine rebounds for Trigg, and Adri Phillips added nine points and seven boards.  Trigg was outrebounded 44-38.

Daviess County [2-0] got 12 points each from Katie Mewes and Adylan Ayer.  The Lady Panthers hit just 30-percent from the field but knocked down 15-of-18 free throws and scored 17 points off 17 Trigg turnovers.

Trigg County [0-3] returns to action Monday at Dawson Springs.
