Hopkinsville High has released its 2021 football schedule that includes a game with a state champion and the Tigers’ first game in Louisville in 16 years.

Hoptown opens the 2021 season Aug. 20 at Ballard in the first-ever game between the schools. The Bruins only played four games in 2020 due to COVID-19, winning two.  Ballard was 6-6 in 2019.

Hoptown returns home on Aug. 27 for the first of two straight games at the Stadium of Champions. The Tigers will play Mayfield in the Jerry Claiborne Bowl after a one-year hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic.

On September 3, Hoptown will host Caldwell County marking the fifth straight season the schools have played. Hoptown has won four straight games in the series and leads the all-time series 20-11-1.

On September 10, Hopkinsville will play at Class 5A state champion Bowling Green in the first regular-season meeting between the schools since 1982.  Their last game was a Bowling Green win in the first round of the 2014 Class 5A playoffs.  Bowling Green leads the all-time series with Hoptown 33-28-4.

Hopkinsville and Christian County will meet for the 55th time on Sept. 17 at the Stadium of Champions. Hoptown beat the Colonels 21-12 in 2020 for its first back-to-back win over its rival since 2002.  Christian County leads the all-time series 29-25.

Hopkinsville begins district play on Sept. 24 against Logan County at the Stadium of Champions.  It’s the first of four straight district games.

Hoptown will travel to Madisonville on Oct. 1 before a bye week on Oct. 8.  The Tigers will host Calloway County on Oct. 15 and travel to Hopkins County Central on Oct. 22.

Paducah Tilghman makes a return to the Tiger schedule in the regular-season finale on Oct. 29. The teams were supposed to play in 2020, but scheduling changes due to COVID-19 shuttered their matchup.

Hopkinsville was 7-3 in 2020 and advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals.
