The defending girls’ 2nd Region champs were apparently in no mood to “dilly-dally” in their trip to Hopkinsville Tuesday evening. Henderson County stepped off the bus firing on all cylinders and cruised to a 67-34 win over the Lady Tigers in Tiger Gym.

Henderson delivered the knockout blow early in the contest, scoring the first 17 points of the game. By the time the opening quarter ended, the Lady Colonels’ lead was at 23-5.

The second quarter was more of the same. Henderson’s defense limited Hopkinsville to just three points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Colonel offense was able to stretch the lead out to 39-8.

Henderson County reserves saw much of the action in the second half, as the two teams played fairly even over the final 16 minutes of the contest. The Lady Colonels would put things on cruise control to finish out the 33 point win.

Henderson would outscore Hopkinsville 28-26 in the second half of play.

Donisha Flowers topped the scoring column for the Lady Tigers, finishing with 12 points. Lashanti Wilson added 8 points for the Lady Tigers. Faith Dansbury finished with 4 points.

Henderson County’s Jarie Thomas was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. Graci Risley was also in double figures with 12.

Hopkinsville falls to 1-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers are set to return to action Friday night when they host Apollo.

The win, which was the 4th in a row for Henderson County, moves the Lady Colonels to 6-1. They now prepare for a huge 6th District contest Friday night as they travel to Dixon to take on Webster County.
