A 12-1 run in the first half put Lyon County in front, and the Lady Lyons went on defeat Caldwell County 46-39 Tuesday night in Eddyville.
Caldwell (3-6) led early in the contest, but Lyon (7-4) never trailed after its big first-half run.
Lyon got to halftime with a 19-15 lead, then extended the margin to 33-25.
The Lady Lyons could never quite shake Caldwell until the fourth quarter, but struggles at the offensive end kept the Lady Tigers from making a ballgame of it late.
Lyon took a 33-25 lead to the fourth quarter. The Lady Lyons led by as much as 12 points down the stretch. A late Caldwell run cut the gap to six before Lyon settled for the seven-point victory.
Lyon dressed just six players on Tuesday but three of them scored in double figures.
Rose Smith led all scorers in the contest with 18 points for the Lady Lyons. Ella Defew finished with 14 points while Calista Collins had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Lyon.
It was Lyon’s second-straight game to have only six players available but still post a win.
Majah Hollowell led Caldwell with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers shot just 22 percent from the floor in the contest, making 16 of 72 attempts. Caldwell was four of 23 from 3-point range.
Lyon shot 35 percent from the field, going 19 of 54. The Lady Lyons hit two of 10 3-pointers.
Caldwell outrebounded Lyon 44-34.
Lyon’s girls will next go to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Thursday.
Caldwell will host Ohio County on Saturday.
