Trigg Locks Up District No. 3 Seed by Clobbering Livingston Central

After a season filled mostly with close games, Trigg County used its press defense to pull away in the second half in its 64-28 win over Livingston Central Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

The win assures Trigg County of the No. 3 seed in next month’s district tournament and a first-round game with two-seed Lyon County.

Trigg County jumped out to a 13-0 lead as they forced eight turnovers and hit five of their first seven shots.

Livingston Central found some balance and outscored Trigg County 15-9 the rest of the half.

The Lady Cardinals got as close as eight points in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Lauren Wring.  The margin was 11 points when Kennedy Croft hit a shot to get Livingston to within 38-27 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Trigg County then put the game away with a 22-0 run. It was a fourth quarter that saw the Lady Wildcats hit 11 of 18 shots and turn 10 Livingston turnovers into 16 points.  The Lady Cardinals missed 12 of their final 13 shots.

For the game, Trigg flipped 35 turnovers into 37 points.

Four Lady Wildcats scored in double figures. Adri Phillips had 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and came away with six steals. Marleigh Reynolds added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Olivia Noffsinger and Kara Hyde each scored 11 points.

Livingston Central got 14 points from Lauren Wring, who entered the week as the only region player averaging more than 18 points a game.

Trigg’s win was its fifth straight over Livingston – their longest streak over their district rivals since 1994.

Before Tuesday, seven of Trigg’s 11 games had been decided by single digits including the last three.

Livingston Central will host Fulton City Saturday,

Trigg County will host Christian County Friday and travel to Calloway County Saturday.
