DeDe Barbee is reminded of her family’s sports legacy every time she walks into Wildcat Gym.

However, the Trigg County senior is doing something no one in her talented family has done before — she is excelling at four different sports in on school year.

DeDe’s mother Nikita finished 11th for Trigg County’s state champion cross country team in 1991 and was named Second Team All-State. Her aunt Antoinette finished one place ahead of Nikita at the 1991 state meet and was also a Second Team All-State selection.  Both of them are in a large team picture on the wall at Wildcat Gym.

DeDe also had uncles and a brother that won district basketball titles that are etched on banners that hang on the gym wall.

A cousin, Lex Mayes, starts for the Murray State women’s basketball program.  Another cousin, Jaquellus Martin, signed recently to play football at Murray State.

But she may go down as the family’s most multi-faceted athlete.

She has run on the big stage at both the state cross country and state track and field meets. She is among the leading scorer on the Lady Wildcat soccer team the past two seasons.  Soccer is a sport she decided to play as a junior.

Currently, DeDe is a starter on the Lady Wildcat basketball team and leads the team in steals.

She’s getting it done in the classroom as well and was recently voted Miss Wildcat by her senior class.

As she looks to help the Lady Wildcats win a third straight district basketball title for the first time in program history, she also has her sights set on track in the spring in what will be the final the final season of her athletic career.

After high school, DeDe said she will enter the nursing field.
