Former Caldwell County standout Jaylen Boyd ran for a pair of first-half touchdowns as his Lindsey Wilson College team routed Pikeville 49-0 Friday afternoon.

It was just the third shutout in program history and marks the Blue Raiders’ eighth straight season-opening win.

Lindsey Wilson scored on its opening drive of the season when Boyd juked his way into the end zone from three yards out to give the Blue Raiders an early 7-0 lead and the only score of the first 15 minutes.

On Lindsey Wilson’s last drive of the first half, Dukes completed a pass to Terrill Cole who then sprinted his way for 53 yards down to the Bears’ 36-yard line. Boyd capped off the possession and the first half with a one-yard rushing touchdown as time expired. That made it 21-0.

The onslaught continued in the second half, as the Blue Raiders held Pikeville to just 80 total yards in the contest.

Dukes went 20-for-26 for the Blue Raiders with 221 passing yards and three touchdowns. Cole received the most attention from Dukes with his team-high eight receptions and 125 yards.

On the ground, Boyd, a junior, led the team in rushes with nine and two touchdowns on top of 33 yards.

The Blue Raiders accumulated 343 yards of offense.

Lindsey Wilson is now 8-0 all time against Pikeville.

Next up for the Blue Raiders is a meeting at Georgetown (Ky.) next Friday, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m. CST.
