Caldwell County’s guys got off to a solid start on Saturday in the Independence Bank Classic at the Sportscenter in Owensboro.

But Breckinridge County used a big second half to claim a 69-59 victory over the Tigers.

Caldwell (3-11) led 16-11 after one quarter and got to halftime with a 23-21 advantage.

But the Fighting Tigers of Breckinridge County (5-8) outscored Caldwell 48-36 in the second half to capture the double-digit victory.

Kason Morris had 22 points to lead Breckinridge.

Tripp Branch had 25 points to top the Tigers, who were without leading scorer Jabrion Spikes for most of the contest.

Spikes, who suffered a hip injury in practice on Friday, played only briefly in the first quarter on Saturday. His status for the upcoming week is uncertain.

Carter Whittington added 10 points for the Tigers.

Caldwell missed a chance to stay close at the free throw line, hitting just 13 of 28 attempts. Meanwhile, Breckinridge made all 11 of its charity tosses.

It was just the fourth matchup ever between the two schools. Breckinridge has taken three of those.

Caldwell returns to action on Monday with a trip to Union County.
