Lady Maroons Rally Past Caldwell 70-62 in Overtime

Madisonville-North Hopkins rallied late to spoil Caldwell County’s three-game winning streak.

The Lady Maroons overcame an eight-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter to force overtime. Madisonville then scored 10 of the final 12 points of the contest to pull out a 70-62 victory in girls’ 7th District action Saturday afternoon at Maroon Gym.

Madisonville now has its own three-game winning streak, following triumphs over University Heights and Dawson Springs.

Freshman Emilee Hallum buried seven 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 23 points to help lead the Lady Maroons on Saturday.

Caldwell (6-9 overall, 2-2 district) trailed by 10 points at 15-5 early in the second quarter. However, the Lady Tigers battled back to lead late in the period before the Lady Maroons took a 26-25 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Caldwell edged ahead 42-41 through three quarters and led by 53-45 midway through the fourth quarter.

Madisonville fought back to tie things at 59-59 and sent the game to overtime.

The contest was tied again at 60-60 early in the extra frame before Madisonville scored eight straight to take control.

Caldwell got 25 points from Jacey Jaggers while Parris Gray and Katy Smiley each added 11.

In addition to Hallum’s big game, Madisonville got 16 points from Amari Lovan and 14 from Destiny Whitsell.

The Lady Tigers and the Lady Maroons will hook up again next month in the 7th District tournament in Princeton. Madisonville will be the No. 2 seed while Caldwell will be the No. 3 seed.

The Lady Tigers continue a busy stretch on Monday when they travel to the 3rd Region to face Whitesville Trinity.

Madisonville hosts district foe Hopkins County Central on Monday.
