The Christian County Lady Colonels have been in a bit of an offensive rut as of late. That rut was exemplified Saturday afternoon as the Lady Colonels got off to a slow start and never recovered as Murray picked up a 54-39 win on the Lady Tigers’ home court.

The game marked the fourth loss in a row for the Lady Colonels, and in three of the four losses, Christian County has been held under forty points.

Murray’s defense locked down on the Lady Colonels almost as soon as they stepped off the bus. The Lady Tigers held Christian County to just two first-quarter field goals as they got out to a 14-4 lead.

Once the Lady Colonels got through the brutal start in the opening eight minutes, they were able to pretty much go toe-to-toe with the Lady Tigers, but they were unable to dig out of the early game hole.

The two teams played “even Steven” in the second quarter. Each time scored 12 points as Murray took a 26-16 lead into the locker room at the break.

The start of the second half was much like the first. Christian County struggled to get the ball in the basket, giving Murray the opportunity to extend their lead. The quarter ended with the Lady Tigers pushing the lead out to 38-21.

Thanks to the play of Anaysia Bagwell, the Lady Colonel offense got some footing in the final quarter, but it was a bit too little too late, as Murray held on to pick up the fifteen-point win.

Bagwell was the only Lady Colonel to hit double figures, finishing with 13 points, eleven of them coming in the 4th quarter. Reni Shemwell added eight.

Murray senior Angela Gierhart was the top scorer in the game with 22 points. Alyssa Daughrity added 17 points for the Lady Tigers.

Christian County now falls to 5-6 on the season, while Murray improves to 8-6.
