After a tight, defensive battle in the first half of Monday night’s matchup between Trigg County and Crittenden County, the Rockets blew it open in the third quarter on the way to a 58-39 victory over the Wildcats.

The Rockets complete the regular-season sweep over the Wildcats to improve to 8-7 overall, while Trigg County slips to 7-7.  Trigg County will need to regroup ahead of a visit from 18-3 Lyon County on Tuesday.  Crittenden will also be back on the court on Tuesday with a trip to Princeton to face Caldwell County.

De’Von Ladd knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and the Wildcats scored the final 4 points to lead 12-8 after one.

The Wildcats stretched the lead to 7 at 17-10 after a steal and layup by Tyler Ahart to force a Crittenden timeout.  The Rockets responded with a 9-2 run, including 7 points from Gabe Mott, to tie the game at 19-19 at the halftime break.

Trailing by 4 midway through the third, the Wildcats were called for a technical foul and Mott hit one of two free throws followed by a pull-up jumper.  Preston Morgeson drilled a 3-pointer to give the Rockets their first double-digit lead at 36-26 before Ahart answered with a 3 for the Wildcats.  Those would be the last points of the third for the Trigg, and the Rockets closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 45-29.

Khyron Vaughn hit a jumper in the lane to trim the lead to 14 to start the 4th, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get.  Tyler Boone scored on a layup to stretch the margin to 20 with 3:32 to go and both teams used their benches to finish out the game.

Mott led all scorers with 20, joined in double figures by Morgeson with 11 for the Rockets.  Ladd was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 10.  Crittenden shot 12/15 from the free-throw line, while Trigg was 8/12.
